Storytelling Advantage: How to Share Your Story with Confidence and Purpose

For a long time, I held fears around speaking my truth—fears rooted in shame.

Shame that my story was too personal, too messy, too much. I thought, Who would want to hear this?

That changed the day my manager asked me to share my personal story with colleagues and senior leaders. It caught me off guard. Sharing vulnerable, raw, real stories in a corporate setting wasn’t something people really did. But I trusted him because he led with vulnerability himself.

So, I stood on that stage, looked at my colleagues and senior managers, and shared my story.

And in that moment, I saw the shift. People leaned in. They were genuinely interested in what I had to say. I could see the lightbulbs going on. That was when I realized the power of storytelling.

The Storytelling Advantage

Over time, I discovered three truths that form what I now call The Storytelling Advantage:

1. See Your Story
The first step is to truly see your story. For years, I didn’t see my career journey as something worth sharing. I dismissed my own brilliance. But every piece of your story has a purpose—even the parts you hold shame, guilt, or anger around.

When you begin to see your story clearly, you start to accept it. You begin to realize that it matters, and that you matter.

2. Share with Purpose
A story without purpose is just information. The real power of storytelling comes when you connect it to why you are sharing it.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I sharing this to educate?

  • To shift perspective?

  • To influence change?

  • To enroll people in my mission, project, or offer?

Your story becomes magnetic when it aligns with a clear purpose.

3. Start Small
Sharing vulnerable truths can feel overwhelming. You don’t have to tell everything at once. Start small. Share pieces that feel safe.

As you build the muscle of vulnerability, your confidence grows—and so does your ability to expand your story. Safe spaces, like speaking circles or retreats, allow you to share without fear of judgment, to embrace imperfection, and to build your storytelling voice step by step.

Why Stories Work

Here’s the thing: data, dot points, and motivational quotes are important—but they don’t complete the picture. Without a story, your message is like a puzzle scattered in pieces across the minds of your audience.

Storytelling is what brings all those pieces together. It transforms dry information into a vivid picture people can understand, remember, and connect with.

That’s why stories create trust. They bridge the gap between you and your audience. People see themselves in your story. They see what’s possible. They gain new insights, breakthroughs, and perspectives.

Storytelling completes the picture.

Healing the Untold Story

There’s also another layer: the stories we don’t tell. The ones we hide out of fear of rejection or judgment. I know that fear—I’ve been there.

But when you heal those parts and bring them into the light, everything changes. That untold story often holds the very key to your impact. When you share it, you liberate your voice and create the ripple effect you’ve been longing for.

The Speak Your Story Retreat

That’s why I created the Speak Your Story Retreat in Bali—a five-night immersion designed for women leaders and business owners who are ready to step into the brilliance of their untold story.

At the retreat, you’ll:
✨ Release the fears that keep your story locked away.
✨ Heal the parts of you that feel ashamed, judged, or silenced.
✨ Connect with the deeper truth of your story.
✨ Rise in confidence as you share your story on stage at the end of the retreat.

It’s deep, transformative work. And it’s why I only take eight women at a time—because your story deserves to be held with care.

If you’ve been sharing your ideas, tips, and strategies but find that your message isn’t landing, check in with yourself: Am I sharing the story that connects the dots? Or am I just sharing dot points?

The art of storytelling is what takes your voice from informative to unforgettable. That’s the storytelling advantage.
